Sunshine Radio Cyprus was a wonderful English-language radio station that broadcast in Cyprus from 2014 until 2020.

90.8 FM Sunshine Radio Cyprus was based in Paphos and had secured an FM licence to broadcast across the Paphos region. The station was also relayed online at sunshineradio.com and by popular streaming services such as TuneIn Radio.
While the region’s permanent population was around 90,000, over 6 million tourists visited the area during the years the station operated. During their visits, hundreds of thousands of tourists from the UK discovered Sunshine Radio Cyprus.
Discovery ranged from finding the station left tuned in hire cars by previous users, to hearing the station playing in hundreds of bars, restaurants, and even by the pool in hotels. In addition, the station had six stunning, fully branded buses that toured Paphos permanently for the first few years the station was on air.
As a result, the station had substantially more listeners outside Cyprus (particularly in the UK) than within its official transmission area, and this was crucial to its success.
Listeners from the UK would tune in regularly, and the station would instantly bring back lovely memories of their perfect Paphos holidays. We know this from listening data and also from thousands of messages received over the years via email and social media.
When the station sadly closed, many listeners expressed their sadness and shared stories on the station’s popular Facebook page:
“We always listened online in Cyprus and the UK in the garden. Made us feel like we were still in Paphos. Missed it the last few years.”
Another post by Sunshine Radio listener Anthony Bennet made us laugh out loud!
“We listened on Alexa back in the UK in our shop. We are just over the road from a medical centre, and one day, a customer came into our shop. The station started broadcasting the news at 2 o’clock, but of course we were two hours behind Cyprus in the UK. A customer in the shop looked at her watch and ran out, panicking! She thought her watch was wrong and she was late for her appointment. Bring it back, pretty please.”
There are still a substantial number of people who tell us they would love Sunshine Radio to return, which is amazing considering the station has now been off the air for over 6 years.
In addition to working with major national and international brands, including Jet2, New Nissan Cyprus, BMW, Bionic Electronics and Currency Solutions, 90.8 FM Sunshine Radio also helped many local businesses grow with expert radio advertising strategies.
Some of these businesses included Top Quotes Insurance, Peter Morton Removals and Century Travel, all of which still enjoy the benefits of their successful partnerships with Sunshine Radio Cyprus between 2014 and 2020.
Another very popular service from 90.8 FM Sunshine Radio Cyprus was the Sunshine Radio Directory, which helped holidaymakers and new residents in the Paphos area discover rated and recommended people and places, from doctors and dentists to removal companies and even a company that would fly your pets to and from Cyprus!
It’s fair to say that Sunshine Radio Cyprus was the first Cyprus-based radio station to offer a modern and genuinely useful website on the island via SunshineRadio.com.
Many old websites, radio directories and “listen now” pages still contain information and links relating to Sunshine Radio Cyprus or 90.8 FM Sunshine Radio. That information is now out of date. Sadly, Sunshine Radio Cyprus and 90.8 FM Sunshine Radio no longer broadcast.
However, plans for two new national radio stations in the UK (Sunshine Radio 1 and Sunshine Radio 2) are at an advanced stage, and both are due to launch officially towards the end of 2026.
In particular, former listeners to Sunshine Radio Cyprus will be delighted to learn that Sunshine Radio 2 will be based on the format and music mix of the former Paphos radio station.
It is also planned for the new stations to become available on smart speakers in Cyprus in due course.*
